Nepal is a landlocked country in South Asia, located between China to the north and India to the south, east, and west. Despite its relatively small area, Nepal has one of the most dramatic geographical variations in the world. The country stretches from the low, subtropical Terai plains to the high Himalayan mountains, creating a remarkable range of climates, ecosystems, and landscapes within a short distance. Nepal is generally divided into three major geographical regions: the Terai, Hill, and Mountain regions. The Terai is a fertile lowland area with warm temperatures, agricultural fields, forests, and important cities. Moving north, the Hill region features valleys, terraced farmland, forests, and rugged hills, including the Kathmandu Valley. Further north lies the Mountain region, dominated by the Himalayas, glaciers, deep valleys, and some of the world's highest peaks.
