Everest Base Camp Heli Tour Overview
The Everest Base Camp helicopter tour is a very scenic one day Himalayan experience which allows you to see the region without having to do a multi day trek. You depart from Kathmandu in the early morning and the helicopter heads out towards the Khumbu Valley providing absolutely stunning aerial views of the Himalayas (Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam and the glaciers etc). Depending on the weather and the flight plan there may be a very brief stop at Lukla for refuelling before continuing on to the Everest region.
A major feature of the tour is the flight over Everest Base Camp, the Khumbu Glacier and the Khumbu Icefall with the possibility of landing at Kala Patthar (5,545m) for some spectacular views of Mount Everest. Given the altitude, landing time at Kala Patthar is invariably very limited and will be at the discretion of the operators and the weather. The tour may also include a stop for breakfast at Hotel Everest View in Syangboche, allowing you to take in the Himalayan views prior to flying back to Kathmandu.
This is the ideal tour for those with limited time, families and people who just want to see the Everest region without having to do any trekking at all. It's available as either a shared group flight or a private charter (subject to availability, of course, as with all flights - availability and weather permitting). Spring and autumn are generally the best times for visibility but flights can be operated at other times of year if the conditions are right. Kathmandu → Lukla (refueling stop) → over Namche Bazaar and Tengboche → Kala Patthar (landing) → flyover of Everest Base Camp and Khumbu Glacier → Hotel Everest View, Syangboche (breakfast stop) → Lukla (refueling stop) → Kathmandu.
Weight and Group Limits
Due to the reduced lift capacity of helicopters at extreme altitude, only 2-3 passengers can be carried per rotation between Pheriche or Lukla and Kala Patthar, depending on total weight. On shared group tours, larger groups are shuttled in smaller batches to and from the highest landing point, with everyone still completing the full itinerary.

Everest Base Camp Heli Tour Itinerary
5:30 AM – Hotel pick-up and transfer to the Kathmandu Domestic Terminal.
Our representative will collect you from your hotel in Kathmandu for an early transfer to the airport, allowing time for check-in, a pre-flight briefing, and final safety formalities before departure.
6:45 AM – Flight from Kathmandu to Lukla (2,860m).
The helicopter departs Kathmandu and heads east, with the landscape transitioning from the green mid-hills to the rugged alpine terrain of the Khumbu, landing briefly at Lukla for refueling.
7:50 AM – Flight over Namche Bazaar and Tengboche towards Kala Patthar.
Continuing into the heart of the Everest region, the helicopter passes above Namche Bazaar, the bustling Sherpa capital, and Tengboche Monastery, with views of Ama Dablam, Thamserku, and Kangtega opening up along the way.
8:20 AM – Landing at Kala Patthar (approx. 5,545m).
The helicopter lands briefly at Kala Patthar, widely considered the best viewpoint of Mount Everest in the entire region, with Everest, Lhotse, and Nuptse rising directly ahead. Due to the extreme altitude, ground time here is limited to approximately 10-20 minutes for photographs and a few unforgettable moments taking in the view.
8:35 AM – Flyover of Everest Base Camp and the Khumbu Glacier.
Departing Kala Patthar, the helicopter flies over Everest Base Camp itself and the dramatic Khumbu Glacier and Icefall, offering a rare bird’s-eye perspective of this legendary high-altitude staging point for Everest expeditions.
8:45 AM – Descend to Hotel Everest View, Syangboche (3,880m).
The helicopter descends to the more comfortable altitude of Syangboche, landing close to the world-famous Hotel Everest View, recognized as one of the highest-placed hotels on Earth.
8:45 AM – 9:45 AM – Breakfast at Hotel Everest View.
We enjoy a relaxed hot breakfast on the hotel’s open terrace, with Ama Dablam rising in the foreground and Everest visible beyond the Lhotse wall, a calm and scenic contrast to the intensity of the earlier high-altitude landing.
9:45 AM – Flight from Syangboche to Lukla for refueling.
A short flight returns us to Lukla for a final refueling stop before the journey back to Kathmandu.
10:15 AM – Flight from Lukla to Kathmandu.
The helicopter makes the return journey to Kathmandu, with a final chance to enjoy the sweeping views of the Himalayan foothills from the air.
11:00 AM – Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to your hotel.
Upon landing, our representative will transfer you back to your hotel in Kathmandu, bringing an unforgettable morning in the high Himalaya to a close, with the rest of the day free to relax or explore the city.
