Trip Overview
The Island Peak Climbing – 16 Days is an exciting Himalayan adventure that combines classic Everest-region trekking with the challenge of climbing a 6,189-meter trekking peak. Also known as Imja Tse, Island Peak rises above the Imja Valley and offers an excellent introduction to Himalayan mountaineering.
The journey begins in Kathmandu before a scenic flight to Lukla, the gateway to the Everest region. From Lukla, the trail passes through traditional Sherpa settlements, suspension bridges, pine and rhododendron forests, and dramatic mountain valleys as you gradually make your way toward the higher Khumbu region.
The trek follows the famous route through Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, Pangboche, Dingboche, and Chhukung. Along the way, you experience Sherpa culture and hospitality while enjoying increasingly impressive views of Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Nuptse, and other Himalayan peaks.
Acclimatization is an important part of the journey. Dedicated acclimatization time in the Khumbu helps your body adjust to increasing altitude while allowing you to explore the surrounding landscapes. Before the summit attempt, you also receive basic climbing preparation and practical guidance for using essential mountaineering equipment.
From Chhukung, the trail continues toward Island Peak Base Camp, where the climbing adventure begins. Summit day normally starts very early, with the route ascending over rocky and glacial terrain before reaching snow and ice sections. With favorable conditions, climbers reach the summit and enjoy spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding Himalayan giants.
After completing the Island Peak climb, you descend through the Khumbu Valley and retrace the route toward Lukla. The 16-day Island Peak Climbing offers a rewarding combination of high-altitude trekking, Sherpa culture, breathtaking Himalayan scenery, acclimatization, and an introductory mountaineering experience.
Lukla Flight Information
Kathmandu to Lukla Flight
The Island Peak Climbing adventure begins with a scenic mountain flight from Kathmandu to Lukla (2,840m), the main gateway to the Everest region. The flight takes approximately 30–40 minutes and offers spectacular aerial views of Nepal's hills, valleys, and Himalayan landscapes.
After landing at Lukla's Tenzing-Hillary Airport, you will meet your trekking support team and begin the trek toward Phakding. From Lukla onward, the journey continues entirely on foot through the Khumbu Valley.
During peak trekking seasons, Lukla flights may operate from Ramechhap Airport rather than Kathmandu because of increased air traffic. In such cases, an early-morning road transfer from Kathmandu to Ramechhap is arranged before the flight to Lukla. The exact flight routing depends on airline operations and airport regulations at the time of travel.
Lukla to Kathmandu Flight
After completing the Island Peak climb and descending to Lukla, you will take a return flight to Kathmandu. The flight is normally scheduled according to available airline operations and weather conditions.
Mountain flights are highly dependent on visibility and weather. Delays or cancellations can occasionally occur, so we recommend keeping some flexibility in your international travel schedule after the trek.
If a flight is delayed because of weather or operational conditions, our team will assist with the necessary arrangements and advise you on the available options.

Island Peak Climbing -16 Days — Important Trip Info
Accommodation includes tourist-standard hotel stays in Kathmandu and comfortable teahouses or lodges during the trek. At Island Peak Base Camp, camping accommodation is arranged with tents and basic camp facilities. Rooms in the Everest region are generally twin-sharing, while facilities become more basic at higher elevations.
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are provided during the trek and climbing period, with breakfast included in Kathmandu. Meals commonly include dal bhat, noodles, rice, pasta, potatoes, soups, Tibetan bread, momos, eggs, and porridge. Food options become more limited at higher elevations.
Staying hydrated is essential during high-altitude trekking and climbing. Carry reusable water bottles or a hydration bladder and use safe drinking-water sources with appropriate purification methods. Water purification tablets or a filtration system are recommended.
Pack only essential trekking and climbing equipment and keep your main luggage within the applicable domestic flight and porter limits. A company duffel bag can be used for trekking equipment, while a smaller daypack is recommended for daily personal items. Extra luggage can generally be stored in Kathmandu.
Altitude is an important consideration on Island Peak. The itinerary includes acclimatization days in Namche Bazaar and Dingboche before reaching higher elevations. Walk at a steady pace, stay hydrated, eat properly, and immediately inform your guide if you experience symptoms such as headache, dizziness, nausea, unusual fatigue, or difficulty sleeping.
Travel insurance is not included in the package. Travelers should arrange comprehensive insurance covering high-altitude trekking and Island Peak climbing, including emergency medical treatment and helicopter evacuation. Carry your insurance policy and emergency contact details throughout the trip.
The trek is supported by experienced, licensed trekking and climbing guides, with porter support arranged according to the group and package requirements. Your climbing guide will provide guidance on climbing equipment, route conditions, safety procedures, and summit preparation.
Tipping is not included in the package price. Tips are traditionally given to trekking guides, climbing guides, porters, and other support staff at the end of the trip as a gesture of appreciation for their service.
Electricity and Wi-Fi may be available at many teahouses along the Everest-region route, but service can be limited, slower, or unavailable at higher elevations and at Base Camp. Charging may involve an additional fee. Carry a power bank and spare batteries for essential devices.
Hot showers are generally available at many teahouses along the Everest-region trekking route, but availability becomes limited at higher elevations and at Island Peak Base Camp. Hot showers may come with an additional charge. At Base Camp, shower facilities are basic or may not be available, so trekkers should be prepared for limited washing facilities.
What our travellers say
“The Manaslu trek is incomparable. It's suitable as a first trek in the Himalayas — plenty of time for acclimatisation and such captivating views that spending time on "altitude sickness" would be a pity. And it's a special pleasure to walk with Krishna. He is a knowledgeable, reliable and brave guide, and a very pleasa…”
