Trip Overview
The Trishuli River Rafting 1 Day trip is Nepal's classic white-water adventure and the perfect introduction to river running in the Himalayas. Rising from the sacred high country near the Tibetan border and fed by the glaciers and streams of the Langtang region, the Trishuli carves a beautiful gorge through the Middle Hills west of Kathmandu before joining the Narayani River on its journey to the Ganges. According to legend, the river was created when Lord Shiva struck the ground with his trishul (trident) at Gosainkunda, giving the river its holy name.
The adventure begins with an early morning departure from Kathmandu, driving west along the scenic Prithvi Highway as it winds above the river's sparkling rapids. At the riverside put-in point near Charaudi, our professional river guides provide a thorough safety briefing and paddling lesson, fit your equipment, and assign you to your raft crew before you push off into the current.
What follows is 2-3 thrilling hours on the water, tackling a lively sequence of Class II-III rapids with memorable names such as Ladies Delight, Upset, Surprise, and Monkey Rapid, interspersed with calm floating stretches where you can swim, take photos, and soak up the scenery of green hillsides, terraced fields, sandy beaches, and riverside villages. Midway through or at the end of the run, a delicious lunch is served on a sandy beach beside the river.
After reaching the take-out point, you change into dry clothes and either return to Kathmandu the same evening or continue your onward journey, as the Trishuli lies conveniently on the main highway to both Pokhara and Chitwan National Park, making this the ideal adventure link between Nepal's most popular destinations.
The Trishuli can be rafted almost all year round. Autumn (September-November) and spring (March-May) offer warm weather and fun, friendly rapids ideal for beginners and families, while the monsoon-swollen flows of June to August transform the river into a bigger, bouncier ride for those seeking extra excitement. Whether you are searching for the Trishuli River rafting cost, itinerary, difficulty level, or best season, this one-day trip offers the most accessible and best-value white-water experience in Nepal.
Transportation & River Access Information
Drive to the Put-In Point
The trip begins with a scenic 2.5-3 hour drive from Kathmandu along the Prithvi Highway, which follows the Trishuli River for much of its length, offering exciting previews of the rapids you are about to run. The usual put-in point is at Charaudi, around 80km west of Kathmandu, where the rafts are prepared on a sandy riverside beach.
Returning from the Trip
The rafting run finishes downstream near Kuringhat or Gaighat, depending on water levels and the day's program. From the take-out point, you can drive back to Kathmandu the same evening (around 2.5-3 hours), or continue directly onward to Pokhara or Chitwan National Park, both of which lie along the same highway corridor.
A Perfect Highway Adventure
Because the Trishuli flows right beside the country's main east-west travel artery, this trip requires no trekking, camping, or remote logistics. It is the easiest white-water adventure to organize in Nepal, and can be booked as a stand-alone day trip from Kathmandu or seamlessly built into your journey between Kathmandu, Pokhara, and Chitwan.

At the beach, our professional river guides fit you with a helmet, life jacket, and paddle, and deliver a thorough safety briefing covering paddling commands, raft positions, and what to do in the unlikely event of falling into the water. Once everyone is confident, crews board the self-bailing rafts and push off into the current.

The next 2-3 hours are the heart of the adventure, as your raft charges through a lively sequence of Class II-III rapids, including the famous Ladies Delight, Upset, Surprise, and Monkey Rapid, with waves splashing over the bow and your guide calling out paddle commands. Between the rapids, calm floating sections give you time to swim in the refreshing water, admire the gorge scenery, wave to villagers crossing high suspension bridges overhead, and catch your breath before the next stretch of white water.

A delicious lunch is served on a sandy beach beside the river, either midway through the run or at the take-out point near Kuringhat, depending on the day's program. After lunch and a chance to change into dry clothes, we load the equipment and begin the return drive.

Trishuli River Rafting – 1 Day — Important Trip Info
Your Trishuli River Rafting trip begins in Kathmandu, the bustling capital of Nepal. Most international travelers land at Tribhuvan International Airport, and the rafting day departs directly from the city, making this one of the easiest adventures in Nepal to arrange.
Our team will assist with pick-up arrangements, final preparations, and a short pre-trip briefing. We recommend booking the rafting day at least one day after your arrival in Nepal, so you are well rested for the early morning departure.
This is a day trip with no overnight stays involved. Pick-up is arranged from your hotel in Kathmandu (typically in or around Thamel) or from our office in the early morning, and you are returned to the city by early evening. Travelers continuing to Pokhara or Chitwan can arrange to be dropped at the take-out point or nearby highway junction with their luggage, which is carried securely in the support vehicle.
The Trishuli takes its name from the trishul, the sacred trident of Lord Shiva, who according to legend struck the ground at Gosainkunda in the high Langtang region and released the river's three source streams. Flowing down from the Tibetan border and the Langtang Himal, the river has for centuries been a lifeline for the villages and farmland of the Middle Hills.
Commercial white-water rafting arrived in Nepal in the 1970s and 1980s, and the Trishuli, running conveniently beside the newly built Prithvi Highway, quickly became the country's first and most popular rafting river. Today it hosts more rafting trips than any other river in Nepal, serving as the training ground for many of the nation's finest river guides and the first taste of white water for tens of thousands of visitors every year.
The Trishuli rises near the Tibetan border and flows down through the Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts, gathering the waters of the Langtang Himal before turning west through a scenic gorge between Kathmandu and the lowlands. The classic one-day rafting section lies roughly 70-90km west of Kathmandu, running from Charaudi downstream toward Kuringhat and Gaighat, before the river continues on to join the Kali Gandaki and form the mighty Narayani at Devghat, near Chitwan.

The Trishuli is one of the few rivers in Nepal that can be rafted almost all year round, with the character of the river changing beautifully from season to season.
Commercial rafting on the Trishuli requires rafting permits arranged through the relevant authorities, and all trips must be led by licensed river guides. • Swimwear or quick-drying shorts and a t-shirt to wear on the river
• Secure sandals with heel straps or old sneakers (no flip-flops)
• A full change of dry clothes and a towel for after the trip

This trip is graded easy to moderate and requires no previous rafting experience, special training, or swimming ability. Participants should be in general good health and comfortable spending 2-3 hours in a paddling raft. The minimum recommended age is around 7-8 years in the gentle seasons, making this a fantastic family adventure, while the bigger monsoon flows are better suited to teenagers and adults. If you can hold a paddle and follow simple commands, you can raft the Trishuli.
What our travellers say
“The Manaslu trek is incomparable. It's suitable as a first trek in the Himalayas — plenty of time for acclimatisation and such captivating views that spending time on "altitude sickness" would be a pity. And it's a special pleasure to walk with Krishna. He is a knowledgeable, reliable and brave guide, and a very pleasa…”
