Nepal Arrival and Immigration Guide
Immigration procedures in Nepal are generally smooth and efficient when all required documents are prepared in advance. Travelers are encouraged to complete the Online Tourist Visa application through the Department of Immigration portal before arrival and carry the confirmation receipt. Visa-on-arrival fees can be paid in cash (preferably clean USD notes) or by card prior to proceeding to the immigration counter.
Step-by-Step Arrival Process
- Online Form: Complete the Tourist Visa application form within 15 days of your travel date. Print the submission receipt with the barcode, which helps speed up processing at the airport.
- Visa Payment: Visit the visa fee counter to pay the required amount and obtain a payment receipt.
- Immigration Desk: Proceed to the appropriate queue for foreign nationals with pre-filled forms or visa-on-arrival. Present your passport (valid for at least six months), barcode receipt, and payment slip to the immigration officer.
- Baggage & Customs: After your visa is issued, proceed through security screening, collect your luggage, and continue through customs clearance.

Essential Tips for a Smooth Entry
- Cash is King: Although visa fees can be paid via credit cards or the NCHL Secure Gateway, carrying clean, unmarked USD cash is recommended as a reliable backup option.
- Passport Photos: It is advisable to carry 2–3 passport-sized photos, as they may be required for trekking permits, SIM card registration, or other local documentation processes.
- Accommodation Details: Keep the name and address of your first hotel or accommodation ready, as this information is often required when filling out arrival forms at immigration.
