Trip Overview

Mera Peak Climbing – 16 Days is one of Nepal's most exciting trekking peak adventures, combining a scenic trek through the remote Hinku Valley with the thrill of climbing Mera Peak (6,476m), the highest trekking peak in Nepal. This adventure is ideal for trekkers seeking their first Himalayan climbing experience while enjoying breathtaking scenery, peaceful trails, and spectacular mountain views.

The journey begins with a scenic flight from Kathmandu (or Manthali during peak seasons) to Lukla, the gateway to the Everest region. Instead of following the busy Everest Base Camp trail, the route heads south through dense forests, charming Sherpa villages, and beautiful river valleys before entering the untouched Hinku Valley.

As the trek gradually gains altitude, trekkers pass through traditional settlements including Paiya, Pangom, Ningsow, Kothe, Thangnak, and Khare. The landscape changes dramatically from lush forests to alpine terrain, rocky moraines, glaciers, and snowfields. A carefully planned acclimatization schedule helps trekkers adjust safely before moving to Mera High Camp.

Before the summit attempt, professional climbing guides provide basic mountaineering training, including the proper use of crampons, harnesses, ice axes, ropes, and safety techniques. Although Mera Peak is considered a trekking peak, the summit day requires determination, physical fitness, and careful pacing.

The highlight of the expedition is reaching the summit of Mera Peak at sunrise. From the top, climbers enjoy one of the finest mountain panoramas in the Himalayas, including Mount Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, Kanchenjunga, Nuptse, Baruntse, Chamlang, and many other snow-covered giants.

Mera Peak Climbing is perfect for adventurous trekkers looking to experience Himalayan mountaineering without attempting a highly technical expedition. Spring (March–May) and Autumn (September–November) are the best seasons, offering stable weather, clear skies, and excellent climbing conditions.

Whether you are searching for the Mera Peak Climbing itinerary, cost, difficulty level, permits, or best time to visit, this 16-day expedition delivers one of Nepal's most unforgettable mountain adventures.

Lukla Flight Information

Kathmandu to Lukla Flight

During the off-season months (January, February, June, July, August, and December), direct flights operate between Kathmandu and Lukla. The scenic mountain flight takes approximately 35–40 minutes and offers spectacular aerial views of the Himalayas.

Please note that all Lukla flights depend on weather conditions and may be delayed or cancelled.

Manthali to Lukla Flight

During the peak trekking seasons (March, April, May, September, October, and November), flights generally depart from Manthali Airport in Ramechhap due to heavy air traffic at Kathmandu Airport.

You will leave Kathmandu around midnight for a 4–5 hour drive to Manthali before taking a scenic 20-minute flight to Lukla.

Optional Helicopter Flight

Travelers seeking extra comfort may choose a direct helicopter flight from Kathmandu to Lukla.

This option eliminates the overnight drive to Manthali and provides outstanding aerial views of the Everest region. Shared helicopter flights normally accommodate 4–5 passengers.

After checking in, you can choose to unwind from your flight or take a stroll through Thamel, Kathmandu's vibrant tourist hub, to pick up any last-minute snacks or personal items.

Essential Pre-Expedition Briefing & Gear Inspection

Before we head toward the Everest region, we conduct a mandatory, comprehensive preparation meeting at your hotel. This ensuring your safety and readiness for climbing Mera Peak (6,476m). This session covers:

  • Detailed Route Briefing: A day-by-day walkthrough of the trek, weather expectations, and acclimatization protocols.
  • Climbing Permit Verification: Our team handles all local government and Mera Peak climbing permits, ensuring all paperwork is verified and ready.
  • Professional Equipment Inspection: Our expert climbing guide will personally check your gear (crampons, ice axe, harness, mountaineering boots, and cold-weather layers). If you are missing anything, we will help you rent or purchase high-quality gear in Thamel.

Pro Tip for Climbers: We highly recommend arriving in Kathmandu at least one day prior to your scheduled itinerary start date. This gives you a crucial buffer zone to recover from jet lag, adjust to the local environment, and handle any unexpected airline luggage delays without stressing about the expedition schedule.
