The Shivapuri parkland, situated just north of Kathmandu within the forested mountains, offers a splendid trekking experience. This region boasts a various forest that varies with altitude and features over 300 species of birds and various animals. It’s a wonderful spot for families and people short on time but anticipating a Nepalese adventure, with trails that are manageable and do not exceed an altitude of two,515 meters, thus avoiding the danger of hypoxia.

The trek starts from the southern part of the park and heads north, passing through Chisopani where trekkers can enjoy views of the Langtang range. The trail then veers southeast towards Nagarkot, winding through terraced villages and culminating in expansive views of the Himalayan peaks and also the Kathmandu Valley below.

The journey continues through communities of the Buddhist Tamang and Hindu Newari people, ending at Changunarayan. This ancient town hosts a big temple dedicated to Vishnu and ends up in Bhaktapur’s Durbar Square, rich in cultural heritage and traditional Newari architecture, despite some earthquake damage. This trek not only offers natural beauty but also a deep dive into the local culture and history before returning to Kathmandu.
